More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the production, commenting that he could not remember "any day without laughter".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the LAPD.
A court order issued a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
